Wilson earned an MBA in Marketing from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1966. A graduate of Glen Ridge High School (NJ), he was named to the Newark Evening News Second Team All-State and received Third Team accolades from the Star-Ledger. He is the 1958 NJSIAA Group I state shot put champion and earned the bronze medal in the discus competition. He matriculated at Dartmouth College where he played one season for the Big Green before an 11th concussion ended his active gridiron career. He transferred to Ursinus College (PA) earning a BA in Economics. Wilson served as captain of the Bears' 1963 Middle Atlantic Conference Track and Field Championship Team and was voted the Most Valuable Player by his teammates. After attending Villanova School of Law, he served as the Supervisor of Public Interest Investigatons in the Office of Essex County Prosecutor, Brendan T. Byrne for 11 years. He was an original Board Member of the National Football Foundation - Essex County Chapter as well as the selection panel of the Division III Gagliardi Trphy of which he is the senior member. He is the West Essex Chamber of Commerce's only three-term President. Wilson arranged the financial transactions for the transfer of the NBA Nets from Long Island to New Jersey and served as the General Chairman of the official welcome on March 15, 1978. He served as Director of Marketing & Media Relations for the New Jersey Red Dogs of the Arena Football League and was Assistant Commissioner - Communications for the Regional Football League. Wilson created USA College Sports, Inc. in 1988. In 1995, he founded the original Division III Senior Football All-Star game and in 1996 promoted the only NCAA-sanctioned championship football doubleheader - the ECAC Division III Southeast and Southwest Championships that included Franklin & Marshall, Frostburg State, the United States Merchant Marine Academy and Wilkes. Wilson has served as President of the Metropolitan New York Football Writers Association since 1990, has been Executive Director of the USA College Football Bowl since 1996 and is the Custodian of the Lambert Trophy and Cups.
Special Olympics honored him in 2002 as the New Jersey Media person who provided outstanding service and recognition to the organization and its efforts. In soccer, he served as the Marketing & Promotions consultant to the New Jersey Ironmen of the Major Indoor Soccer League that played at the Prudential Center in Newark, has been CEO of a pro soccer franchise while creating the first-ever USA College Men's Soccer All-Star Game. Wilson serves on the Executive Board of the Met Basketball Writers Association and is a co-founder the Eastern College Basketball Senior All-Star Games. He served as a consultant to World Team Tennis, is a past Vice President of the New Jersey Baseball Coaches Assocation and has served as a track & field coach at the scholastic level. Wilson has been an Adjunct Professor on the faculty of the Fairleigh Dickinson University Graduate School of Sports Administration and has served as a Professor and on the Board of Advisors of Essex County College (NJ).
St. Patrick's Day 2010, Wilson underwent major heart surgery for a bovine replacement and by-pass and on July 1, 2010 suffered a serious stroke that has left him handicapped and ended his efforts as a Masters level track & field athete. Four subsequent medical procedures in 2013-2014 have complicated his physical movements but he continues to offer direction and guidance in preparing young men and women for entry into the sports industry.
